The year was 2010. One of my dreams had always been to take a motorcycle around the Himalayas. A friend of mine also had the same notion so we sat down over a beer to discuss the proposition. Every year we sat down and had the same discussion until 2019 when I announced that if we didn’t do it soon we would be past it. He decided not to continue so I was left on my own to try and get this trip organised.

After many hours of searching the internet I found three companies that could potentially get me there. I contacted them and here were the responses:

Company one – A very short email back with very little detail.

Company two – A response saying all of the details were on their website.

Company three – A comprehensive fifteen page email back explaining everything right down to the equipment I would need.

Company three impressed me the most. Who were they……..liveindia.co.uk. A flurry of emails went between myself and Andy (the tour guide, company owner, navigator, laughter machine, organiser extraordinaire). I was overwhelmed with the information that was coming my way and, with this, my deposit was paid for a trip in 2020. I was undecided as to whether to do the Roof of the World or Little Tibet. Then………DISASTER!

2020 saw the outbreak of Covid. All plans were put on hold. In 2021 the outbreak was still rife in India so another year was scrapped.

Things all looked better in 2022 so I contacted Andy again to see what could be organised. Great news…..a new road had been opened up in the south of the foothills and Andy was looking for some trailblazers to try it out. He had three others who had travelled with him before and was looking for a fourth. What could I say but YES. Opportunities like this don’t often come along.

And so it was set…..money paid, flights booked…..and now all I had to do was wait. It seemed like an age but eventually, June 2023 arrived. This site is a travel log of my adventure. Hopefully it will inspire others to do this once in a lifetime trip.

Thanks for coming along.
