4th June 2023

Today was to be a long day of travelling. First journey was to Heathrow to get my Air India flight to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi. The flight was interesting…….felt like I could be on a bus with people selling chickens and street food. The on-board food was excellent with a Jain curry (very vegetarian or should I say vegan). Brilliant flavours though and certainly filled the hole that travelling had created.

I arrived in Delhi airport and immediately got a text from Peter, one of the other explorers. We met outside the airport at which point I needed to remove some clothing. Due to the weight restriction on the aircraft I had worn most of my biking gear which was fine in the mild 20 degrees back in London but not fine for the 35 degrees and high humidity of Delhi.

We were picked up by minibus and transported to a nearby hotel which was to be our room until around 3 in the morning (ready for our next stint of the journey).

Arranging to meet the rest of the group a little later I stepped out onto the streets and all I can say is wow! There is traffic going in every direction including the wrong way up dual carriageways. Tuk tuks squeezing through gaps that only people could squeeze through and people wandering in the roads as if they were pavements.

Meeting up with the group later on was fantastic. A couple of beers and some very upmarket food (the last we were to see for quite a few days) and it was off to bed for a few hours kip.
